Prototype of thermoelectric cooler for microprocessors

R. Palacios J. Vázquez A. Arenas

January 2004 - January 2004

Funding entity TEDUINSA

The increasing speed of microprocessors in current personal computers is being limited by their heat dissipation capability. Speed growth is directly related with the amount of heat produced by the microprocessor, hence cooling capability has increased dramatically in the latest years. As a consequence, also the noise level of personal computers has increased, reaching the refrigeration limit based on conventional techniques.
This project will develop and test a small prototype of a microprocessor's cooling system based the thermoelectricity. Using Peltier modules in combination with traditional fans and heat exchangers can potentially improve the cooling capability orders of magnitude.
